About

Brian L. Enke is a Lead Computer Scientist in the Southwest Research Institute’s Solar System Science and Exploration Division. He currently serves as deputy lead and lead engineer for the data downlink pipeline of the New Horizons (NH) spacecraft and contributes to data archival teams for both the NH and Lucy missions. Prior to his mission roles, Brian supported numerous scientific research teams within the division, specializing in artificial intelligence (directed learning), asteroid-impact SPH and N-Body simulations, magnetosphere studies, and automated crater detection. He grew up in Bunker Hill, Illinois, and spent 17 years at Bell Labs leading teams that developed real-time software updates for complex telecom systems. He also has extensive experience in robotics mentoring and public speaking/outreach activities. In his spare time, Brian writes science fiction novels, including Shadows of Medusa and Tales of Life on Mars, and is currently completing his Tetrahedron trilogy.
