Emma Birath is a Staff Analyst at the Department of Space Operations. With more than 20 years of experience in Science and Mission Operations, she specializes in Uplink Operations for payload instruments, and software development to support operations. Her journey in this field started as a sequencer for the Cassini Imaging Science Subsystem in 2001, and since then she has been involved in a variety of missions including New Horizons, Rosetta, and CYGNSS. Today she is the Uplink Lead for the Science Operations Center (SOC) of NASA’s Lucy mission to the Trojan asteroids. In this role, she led the development of the ground software suite used for SOC uplink operations, from initial design, through code development, validation and verification, and maintenance. Today she leads the uplink team that utilizes these tools for planning Trojan encounter flyby command loads, as well as calibration and checkout activities.
