About

Rachael Hoover is a planetary geologist in the Department of Space Studies focusing on geomorphology and surface processes of Earth, the Moon, and Mars. Her research utilizes GIS and remote sensing techniques, along with terrestrial field work, to understand how surface features form and evolve over time. Her work primarily focuses on impact craters, creating foundational datasets that are utilized to understand the formation and geologic evolution of planetary bodies, including Mars, the Moon, and Ceres. Additionally, her work characterizing surface processes and geomorphology provides necessary observations for identifying subsurface ice on planetary bodies. She earned Ph.D and B.A. in Geological Sciences from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and an M.S. in Earth Science from Washington State University.
